Bulk water supply

From source to scheme, engineered for reliable delivery and decades of low running costs.

Solutions / Bulk water supply

Moving water from source to scheme edge sounds straightforward. In practice it means working with elevation differences, managing pressure across long pipeline routes, sizing pump stations, and deciding how much storage and balancing the scheme needs. Get any of it wrong at the start and the operating cost compounds for decades.

We design bulk water infrastructure for large-scale irrigation schemes and water supply projects. Every system is engineered to balance capital investment with long-term operating costs, because the least expensive system to build is rarely the least expensive system to run.

What the process involves

We start with the whole journey the water has to make. Source location, elevation profile, flow requirements, storage needs and energy costs are all assessed before we propose a configuration, so the design is optimised for the full life of the infrastructure rather than the construction budget alone.

01
Pipelines

Pipeline design means selecting the right pipe material, diameter and pressure rating for the flow volumes, operating pressures and terrain along the specific route. There is no standard answer, because no two routes present the same conditions.

Pipe sizing sets both the capital cost of construction and the energy cost of pumping for the life of the system. Size up and you pay more today; size down and you pay every hour the pumps run. We optimise the two together rather than treating them as separate decisions.

02
Pump stations

This is where the energy cost of a bulk water system is either controlled or compounded. We size pump stations for the hydraulics of the full system, select equipment that stays efficient across the expected operating range, and design for straightforward maintenance and reliable long-term operation.

03
Balancing dams and storage

Storage buffers the gap between when water is available and when the scheme needs it. That lowers peak pump loads and gives you room to move when conditions change. We size storage to what the scheme requires, so you are not paying to build capacity that will never be used.

04
Canals and open channels

Where the terrain and the volumes suit open channel conveyance, we design canal systems that carry water efficiently from source to distribution point, with the control and measurement structures built into the design rather than added afterwards.

05
Construction-ready deliverables

You receive a complete construction package: hydraulic models, construction drawings, bills of quantities and technical specifications. Every element is documented: contractors can build accurately, and the people who will operate the scheme know how it is meant to run.

What you get
An energy bill you designed, not inherited

Pipe diameter and pump selection are settled against decades of pumping cost.

Capital spent only where it earns

Storage and capacity sized to what the scheme needs. Nothing is built to sit idle.

Water where you need it, when you need it

Balancing and control designed in, so supply timing does not dictate what you can plant or irrigate.

A scheme your operators can run

A verified hydraulic model and full documentation hand over with the infrastructure. Running the scheme never rests on one person’s memory.

Bulk water infrastructure is designed once, but paid for every day it operates.

Send us your scheme layout and demand figures. We will show you where the energy cost is hiding before you commit to a route or a pump.
